Following the close of the poll on Saturday 6 August 2011 for the election of one Councillor to represent each of the nine (9) regions on the New South Wales Aboriginal Land Council, the following persons are declared elected:

NEW SOUTH WALES ABORIGINAL LAND COUNCIL  ELECTION OF NINE (9) REGIONAL COUNCILLORS

TO BE HELD SATURDAY, 6 AUGUST 2011

UPDATE: ELECTION COUNT TIMETABLE

1. Preliminary First Preference Count Results will be on the Electoral Office website  by 7.30 pm on Saturday 6th August.

2. Check Count for the First Preference Count will be conducted on Sunday 7th August.

3. Preference distribution will be conducted on Monday 8th August starting at 9.00am with the preliminary results available by about 12 noon

4. Formal declaration will be made on 11 August 2011.

Elections are to be held for nine (9) councillors of the New South Wales Aboriginal Land Council with one member to represent each of the following Regional Aboriginal Land Council areas:    

  • Central
  • Mid North Coast                                    
  • North Coast
  • Northern                                  
  • North Western                     
  • South Coast
  • Sydney/Newcastle            
  • Western                                    
  • Wiradjuri

WHO CAN NOMINATE AS A CANDIDATE

To be a candidate, a person must be a voting member of a Local Aboriginal Land Council area within the Region.

A person cannot nominate as a candidate for more than one Region.

HOW TO NOMINATE AS A CANDIDATE

A nomination must:

  • be in the approved form;
  • be made by not less than 6 persons (other than the candidate), each of whom is entitled to vote at the election (i.e. is listed on the same regional roll as the candidate, however a person can only nominate one candidate in an election);
  • be signed by the candidate;
  • be accompanied by a statutory declaration, in the approved form, that the candidate is not disqualified from holding office; and 
  • be accompanied by a deposit of $50.00 in the form of cash, money order or bank cheque.

Nominations must be lodged with the Returning Officer, NSW Electoral Commission, Level 25, 201 Kent Street, Sydney (PO Box 693, Grosvenor Place, 1220) or faxed to (02) 9290 5939 to be received no later than Noon, Tuesday 12 July 2011.

A candidate who has lodged a nomination but wishes to withdraw the nomination, must do so in writing to the Returning Officer prior to the close of nominations at Noon, Tuesday 12 July 2011.

DRAW FOR POSITIONS ON BALLOT PAPER

If more than one nomination is received for any region, draws to determine the order of candidates' names on the ballot paper for those regions will be conducted at the NSW Electoral Commission at 2:00pm on Tuesday 12 July 2011.  Candidates or their representatives are welcome to attend the draws.

POLLING DAY

Polling Day is Saturday, 6 August 2011.
