
NSWALC TRAINING & DEVELOPMENT MISSION
To work towards the achievement of the NSWALC Corporate Priorities
and the fulfilment of the NSWALC Business Plan. Training and
Development therefore has a focus to build the capacities of NSWALC
and the LALC Network via the provision of quality and timely
training and development advice, programs and resources to the
Aboriginal Land Council Network.
The Training and Development Unit has been formed specifically to
facilitate a wide range of training programs for the betterment of
all Local Aboriginal Land Councils, to empower members with the
skills and knowledge they require to manage their local Land
Councils and to increase governance and business capability of LALC
Boards.
Specific roles of the Unit include the following:
- Managing the NSWALC Cost Centres for Training and Development
- Coordinating the creation and implementation of the NSWALC Capacity Development Plan, this includes training strategies and training plans for the NSWALC Board, NSWALC staff, LALC Boards and LALC staff.
- Ensuring NSWALC meets its Statutory Obligation in relation to provision of mandatory governance training pursuant to S. 65 and S.107 of the ALRA.
- Provision of support to NSWALC Board, NSWALC Staff, Zone Offices and LALC's in relation to all issues regarding the provision of training and development activities within the Aboriginal Land Council Network.
- Monitoring, evaluating and reporting on the success rate of training and development activities undertaken and to develop and manage improvement strategies as required.
- Working in collaboration with the Zone Offices, develop and implement data collection and collation methodologies which meet business and reporting requirements in relation to training and development activities across the LALC Network.
- Ensuring all NSWALC training policies and practices are ethical and comply with the NSWALC Code of Conduct, Anti-Discrimination and Occupational Health and Safety legislation and promote the establishment of equal employment and access in accordance with agreed Government policy.
- Establishing and maintaining a broad network of Training and Development Providers to ensure NSWALC has the ability to develop and implement a broad range of training and development activities and meet legislative requirements.
- Identification and development of strategies to enable NSWALC to obtain external funding and/or related assistance to support the provision of training initiatives to the Network.
- Ensuring that all written advice provided to NSWALC Executive and Zone staff complies with probity, statutory and NSWALC policy and procedures.
- Providing the Chief Operating Officer and other senior NSWALC staff with strategic advice on emerging training and development issues within NSWALC and in the external training environment.

- Funding Strategies for LALCs (Grants)
- OH&S for LALCs
- Springboard leadership program for women
- Certificate IV in Finance (currently running)
- Certificate IV in Business Administration (currently running)
- Advanced Diploma of Management (currently running)
- Graduate Certificate in Business Administration for CEOs (with University of Newcastle)
