The Council 2007

The nine-member New South Wales Aboriginal Land Council was elected following a statewide poll on May 19, 2007.

The newly elected Council met for the first time on May 30 and 31 and elected Central Coast Councillor Bev Manton as Chairperson, and Northern Region Councillor Tom Briggs as Deputy Chairperson. Click here for details of each Councillor by region.

NSWALC'S EDUCATION REVOLUTION

NSWALC has announced a $30million Education Endowment Fund which is targeted at providing Aboriginal People in NSW with a broad range of educational and vocational opportunities. The new education endowment fund will run in conjunction with the existing Freddie Fricke scholarship which is targeted soley at tertiary education. COMMUNITY LAND AND BUSINESS PLAN

Under the 2006 amendments to the ALRA, it is mandatory for all Land Councils to prepare and implement a community, land and business plan. Click here to access the community, land and business plan package.

June 10, 2008 marked the 25th anniversary of the proclamation of the Aboriginal Land Rights Act in New South Wales.

The anniversary was marked with a special sitting of NSWALC’s Governing Council in the NSW Parliament. For more information click here
