JOINT REWARD OFFER

In April 2008, NSWALC wrote to the then NSW Minister for Police and the Australian Trucking Association asking them to match a $30,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of truck drivers sexually abusing Aboriginal children and youths.

NSWALC's Governing Council offered the reward following allegations of Aboriginal children and youths from the towns of Moree and Bogabilla being persuaded to have sex with truck drivers in exchange for money.

The Joint Reward Offer for the Sexual Exploitation of Aboriginal Children was officially launched in Dubbo November 17, 2008 by NSWALC Chairperson Bev Manton and Assistant Commissioner Stephen Bradshaw, NSW Police spokesperson for Aboriginal Issues. (See photos of the launch here.)

"We're Watching You" - is a joint initiative between the NSW Police Force, Crime Stoppers and the Aboriginal Land Council to encourage reports of sexual exploitation of Aboriginal children along major roadways in regional and rural locations.

A reward of $5,000 is offered for any information that leads to an arrest for sexual exploitation of an Aboriginal minor.

The campaign will be promoted along major trucking routes and highways throughout the state to encourage reporting from surrounding community members.

Anyone with information relating to the sexual exploitation of an Aboriginal child should contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
