NSWALC WELCOMES SUPPORT FROM NATIVE TITLE BODY

The New South Wales Aboriginal Land Council welcomes the support of a key native title representative body in its bid to convince the State Government not to sack the council and appoint an administrator.

The incoming board of New South Wales Native Title Services Limited has formally pledged its support for NSWALC.

The chair of the meeting, Mr Jim Wright, has informed me the Board voiced strong support for NSWALC and wanted to ensure there was a much closer relationship between Native Title Services and the land council.

The Native Title Services Board is totally opposed to any move by the State Government to diminish the political and representative functions of NSWALC and has reserved a seat on its Board for a NSWALC representative.

I welcome this support on behalf of NSWALC.

NSWALC is fighting for its political survival and these types of expressions of support strengthen our resolve.

We remain confident we have provided the NSW Government a far better alternative for enduring reform of the land rights system than that proposed by the Government appointed investigator.

We look forward to taking up the offer of the Native Title Services Board and look forward to forging a closer relationship to benefit both of our constituents.
