NSWALC AND AN ADMINISTRATOR

I have received a considerable amount of feedback in recent weeks about my position in relation to the appointment of an administrator to take over all of the functions of NSWALC.

A number of people claim to be confused by my position given that I was vocal on the need for the State Government to appoint the investigator who has since recommended the appointment of an administrator.

I have decided to issue this statement to clear the air.

I would be the first to support the appointment of an administrator if I felt NSWALC was not following proper governance procedures.

This is what led me to lobby for the investigator.

We were not, in my view, following proper governance procedures when I publicly lobbied for an investigator back in December last year.

I believe NSWALC is now doing so.

We have adopted a large range of new governance policies and procedures and have appointed a new CEO who is now working with councillors to ensure we operate in a transparent and accountable way.

As long as we do so I cannot see any reason for an administrator to be appointed.

The Council is now operating with a new sense of unity and purpose and should be allowed to continue to do so.

Many people believe the report of the investigator justifies the appointment of an administrator.

NSWALC's preliminary analysis does not support this view.

We will be responding publicly to the report in the near future and I would ask everyone to await the release of our reply before making any final conclusions in that regard.

In recent months NSWALC has had a wake up call.

We have responded and as long as we continue to do so we should be left to run our own affairs.

Councillor Veronica Graf.
