FINAL CALL FOR NOMINATIONS

The New South Wales Aboriginal Land Council has issued a final call for nominations from Aboriginal men and women who are voting members of a Local Aboriginal Land Council and are interested in being elected to the State’s peak Aboriginal organisation.

Nominations from prospective candidates for election to the New South Wales Aboriginal Land Council close at noon next Monday, April 23, 2007.

One councilor from each of nine regions throughout New South Wales will be elected to Council on May 19.

A record of more than16,500 members of Local Aboriginal Land Council have registered to vote in the election.

The Chief Executive Officer of the NSW Aboriginal Land Council, Mr. Geoff Scott, said today time was rapidly running out for those interested in nominating as candidates for the election.

“Prospective candidates would be wise to lodge their nominations with the Returning Officer of the NSW Electoral Commission as soon as possible to ensure they have adequate time to fix any problems which might arise with their nomination form,” Mr Scott said.

“Aboriginal men and women who are voting members are obliged to comply with a number of key steps to successfully nominate as a candidate and I would urge anyone considering doing so to act now if they have not already lodged a nomination,” he added.

Nomination and Statutory Declaration forms, postal vote applications and full details about the election are available on both the NSWALC website www.alc.org.au and the Electoral Commission website www.elections.nsw.gov.au
