Worimi Aboriginal Land Council venture wins top tourism award

NSW Aboriginal Land Council Chair Roy Ah-See has congratulated Worimi Local Aboriginal Land Council's Sand Dune Adventures for taking a national tourism award.

Sand Dune Adventures won the Qantas Excellence in Aboriginal Cultural Tourism category at the Australian Tourism Awards last night.

Cr Ah-See said Sand Dune Adventures - an initiative of Worimi Local Aboriginal Land Council - was one the Land Rights network's success stories.

"In 2007, Worimi Local Aboriginal Land Council was successful in having land at Stockton Bight returned to Aboriginal ownership.

"Worimi Local Aboriginal Land Council's members showed great vision to identify opportunities to promote Aboriginal culture and generate economic benefits, not just for the Aboriginal community but the broader economy.

"Hundreds of thousands of tourists have taken to quad bikes and immersed themselves in Worimi culture through Sand Dune Adventures and the accolades keep coming.

"What Worimi Local Aboriginal Land Council has achieved in creating jobs, increasing tourism numbers and promoting rich Aboriginal culture shows the strength of our unique system of Land Rights in New South Wales," Cr Ah-See said.
